Serve in Alpha!
We need volunteers to:
join the ALPHA PRAYER TEAM - Alpha will not succeed unless God shows up! We absolutely need a team of volunteers who will pray January to April for Alpha. You will receive a weekly Alpha email update with prayer items. This is a critical team of volunteers!
serve in ALPHA KIDS - we are caring for children in nursery to Grade 5 during the program portion of each Tuesday night Alpha. Providing the child care option for Alpha guests is critical as some would be unable to attend Alpha without it! (To be eligible to serve with vulnerable persons our volunteers must go through our Volunteer Screening, including attending Bethel for a minimum of 6 months, application, reference checks, Criminal Record check, online training, etc. This process can take time so let’s get you started! This is our commitment to protecting vulnerable persons in our ministries!!)
join the ALPHA KITCHEN TEAM - with the support of dedicated volunteers, we serve a free meal at Alpha each Tuesday night. Sharing a meal helps build relationship and trust.
serve as an ALPHA TABLE HOST OR HELPER - after we share a meal and watch a video we divide into small table groups where we invite people to share their thoughts about what was presented in the video. Each table group has a Host and a Helper.
What is Alpha?
Alpha is for our neighbours, friends and family who have real questions about LIFE, FAITH, MEANING and HOPE. It’s for people of no faith, some faith, or who have questions about their faith. It’s is a place where people can be themselves. It’s a safe place to explore the Christian faith in a non-threatening way. People can say what they think and challenge everything. No question is too complex or too simple. And their point of view is just as important as everyone else’s.
We explore the basics of the Christian faith in a non-threatening way. We enjoy a free meal together; we watch a video presenting one aspect of the Christian faith; then we breakout into small table groups to discuss. It’s is a place where you can be yourself. You can say what you think and challenge everything. No question is too complex or too simple. And your point of view is just as important as everyone else’s. We have seen amazing relationships built as we listen and discuss!
Our next Alpha begins Tuesday, January 28, 2025. We meet from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm each Tuesday night for 9 weeks in the Large Fellowship room at Bethel.
CHILDCARE AVAILABLE - We offer CHILDCARE for our guests for Nursery to Grade 5. Guests would keep their children for the dinner at 6:00 pm and then drop their kids off to their class at 6:30 pm before the video and table discussion. The evening ends at 8:00 pm.
How Can I Be an INVITER?
We all want to share this amazing good news we have with people in our lives but that can be difficult to do at times. Alpha is an amazing space to invite these people to because it is so non-threatening. Alpha has been run thousands of times across the world - and has had amazing results!
Alpha 11:02 PRAYER Card - We encourage everyone to consider praying for 3 people they know who are non-churched or de-churched. Set your alarm for 11:02 am (from Luke 11:2) each day and pray for these people.
Alpha INVITE Card - Then invite them to attend Alpha - and offer to JOIN them if that will help them decide to come. Sometime we say - “What have you got to lose. Come to the first night - if it’s not something you like, well at the very least you will have enjoyed a nice meal and good company!”
TOOLS TO INVITE: We have 11:02 Prayer Cards and Alpha Invite Cards available at the Welcome Desk. You could also text our Alpha page from our website to potential guests - www.bethelstrathroy.com/alpha

Why Should I SERVE in Alpha?
Because Alpha is a proven way for guests to join a safe space to explore the big questions of life, faith and meaning - with no pressure! And that’s what we are about as a church - inviting others to consider the good news of the gospel!
To deliver Alpha, we need a TEAM made up of Kitchen volunteers, Childcare volunteers, Hosts, Helpers and Prayers! Don’t worry if you are inexperienced with Alpha - we will provide the necessary training.
Each weekly Alpha session has 3 parts:
A time to connect with others around a meal
Watch an Alpha video talk
Discussion in small groups - in breakout tables of 8 people or less
KITCHEN volunteers help cook, serve the meal, and cleanup after. This is a key role because sharing a meal together as people breaks down barriers and fosters relationship.
CHILDCARE volunteers provide essential care for children during the video and discussion portion of the evening (approx 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm). This helps remove barriers for guests with young children and allows them to attend and participate.
HOSTS facilitate discussion at our breakout tables around themes and questions arising from the video. Hosts do not teach - rather, they proactively draw guests out in discussion.
HELPERS assist HOSTS at the breakout tables by helping to encourage discussion by all; and it’s a great training spot to be a HOST in the future.
PRAYERS fill a vital role by supporting the Alpha team and guests with prayer. We keep you informed with regular communication throughout.
